How to Install Slatwall in Plaster Walls

2
    • 1). Locate and mark the studs behind the plaster wall finish using a stud finder.

    • 2). Measure the height of the wall. Cut 1-by-3-inch furring strips to that length using a circular saw.

    • 3). Drill pilot holes in the furring strips approximately 12 to 18 inches apart. Attach the furring strips to the studs with screws long enough to penetrate the furring strips, the plaster wall and at least 1 inch into the stud.

    • 4). Locate the directional marker on the back side of the slatwall panel. Orient each slatwall panel so the up arrow is on the lower left side of the back of each panel as you cut it to fit. Cut panels with their face up to fit the wall space using a circular saw.

    • 5). Hold a slatwall panel against the wall. Check that it is level as well as straight up and down with a carpenter’s level. Attach the panels to the wall with flat-head screws placed through the channels between the slats and into pre-drilled holes in the furring strips. Do not put screws through the slats or accessories might not attach to the slatwall properly. Hang additional panels in a similar manner by butting edges together.
