How to Hide a Staircase
- 1). Hang a curtain from the ceiling by installing curtain-rod hardware into the ceiling and attaching the curtain so it falls in front of the staircase. You may have to get creative with how you hang the curtain rods because they'll be against the ceiling as opposed to a wall. Fight gravity by encasing the rods entirely on the rod hooks with strong tape. Use dark curtains to hide the staircase completely or sheer curtains if you want to see a silhouette of it.
- 2). Place floor-to-ceiling bookcases around the staircase to hide it completely from view. Measure the staircase's height and width carefully before choosing the right bookcase. Use hardware to anchor the bookcase securely to available surfaces on the staircase and against other bookcases. This method adds extra storage to the area.
- 3). Set a folding room divider in front of the stairs if you want to hide the stair's entrance. Dividers come in a variety of widths and heights and can be opaque or partially see-through. When you want to access the stairs, move the divider aside or fold it up. Tall dividers also work along the side of the stairs to hide the railings.
- 4). Grow tall, potted plants next to the staircase. If you don't have a green thumb you can use artificial plants. Some dwarf varieties of potted tress grow well indoors and will hide a staircase if you set them next to each other.
