DIY Floating Floor
- 1). Use your hammer and flatbar to remove the floor trim. Don't break it as you take it out. Set it aside.
- 2). Clean and dry the floor. Roll out foam underlayment over it in rows, taping together the seams and cutting them as needed with a razor knife. Cover the whole floor. The rows of underlayment should be taped to each other but not to the floor or walls.
- 3). Lay the first line of floating floor planks along the wall where you want to start. Connect them at the ends, with the grooved side of the boards facing the wall but not touching it. Leave a 1/2-inch gap there.
- 4). Lay the next rows in the same manner, connecting the edges together and cutting them on a miter saw at the ends as needed. Cover the entire floor.
- 5). Use a table saw to cut the last course of boards along their lengths, so they fit against the ending wall with a 1/2-inch gap. Use trim nails and your hammer to reinstall the floor trim, covering the gaps and holding down the floor.
