How to Cut Glass for Home Improvements
- 1). Lay an old towel on a flat table or work surface. Make sure the table top is clean and level.
- 2). Wipe off your glass and lay it flat on the towel. Measure the size you need to cut and place painter's tape on the glass to show exactly where to cut.
- 3). Turn your glass over. Put on safety glasses. Place your straight edge along your first line. You should be able to easily see the edge of the tape through the glass.
- 4). Position your glass cutter perpendicular to the glass and score along the edge of the straight edge. (Cut from one edge of the glass to the other.)
- 5). Lift up the side of the glass and position a pencil between the towel and the glass lined up on your score line. Press down gently on either side of the pencil. The glass will break. Position and make additional cuts as necessary. (Remove your pencil between each cut.)
