Pienza Marketplace Restaurant Review
About.com Rating
The Bottom Line
Pienza Italian Market is a casual restaurant at the Gaylord National Resort that serves breakfast, lunch and Sunday brunch. In 2015, the restaurant was renovated to introduce a new design and food concept. Established during the resorts opening in 2008, the original Italian Marketplace has been replaced with a farm-to-table concept of Mid-Atlantic cuisine.
Located in the resorts atrium, the restaurant offers new, double-sided islands featuring a variety of made-from-scratch dishes that guests can choose from, as well as a new open-concept show kitchen where guests can watch food being prepared by Pienza’s resort chefs.
The new menu features a variety of fresh, locally-grown and raised products from local and regional farmers and artisanal producers from Maryland, Virginia and Pennsylvania. The restaurant’s chefs partnered with each farmer and producer to select the best seasonal products to be featured in its signature dishes year-round.
Pienza Marketplace is open for breakfast and lunch and will feature a new Bellini Brunch on Sundays.

Pienza Italian Market Restaurant Review - Gaylord National Resort
This review is based on the breakfast buffet.
The restaurant offers a full breakfast with traditional items - fruit, yogurt, eggs, ham, sausage, bagels, muffins, made-to-order waffles and omelets. The food was fresh and good, though the selection was not as extensive as I would have expected. I would imagine that the menu later in the day would offer more interesting selections.
Located in the hotel atrium with a view of the Potomac River, the restaurant has a relaxed atmosphere with seating on an indoor patio. Beach umbrellas, shrubs and trees create an Italian cafe-like scene.
For lunch and dinner, six market-inspired stations include an artisanal bread and antipasto station, a fresh produce market station, a rotisserie and carvery station, a pasta and risotto station and a traditional dolceria/sweet shop.
