How To Develop Self Confidence - Removing One Roadblock At A Time
Many of us are terrified to express our opinions because we are afraid what others might say. Women, in particular are taught to defer to authority, especially in a patriarchal society. Emotional trauma, poor body image as well as lack of knowledge also lowers our self-esteem or self-confidence. That being said, being confident is not something that one can learn from school or set or rules that one needs to follow in order to be successful.
Learning to be self-confident is a state of mind and believing in oneself. Before one can develop self-confidence, it is necessary to understand what it means and how one should differentiate it from self-esteem. Although the two are linked together, being self-confident means how one feels about performing a particular role or function as well as finishing a particular task at hand. Self-esteem on the other hand is how one values oneself or how worthy one is. Some people may have high self-confidence, but low esteem and vice versa.
Preparation is the Key
One of the best ways to improve oneself is to prepare and plan accordingly. Many people lack self-confidence because they are not prepared to face or accomplished a particular task. Once you get to understand what the task needs done, it is easy to break it into smaller components that one can finish one at a time. By taking control of the things that are under your circle of influence, you would be able to predict the outcome of what you want done thus increasing your confidence.
Knowledge is Power
Many of us might feel that we are not prepared to do a particular task or job and this is where knowledge or knowing comes at hand. By knowing what the task entails, you can get the job done. There are times when mistakes might happen and this is unavoidable. Using those mistakes learned can help you perform the job better later on.
Know Thyself
Remember that each and every one of us is unique in our own ways. What might work for your colleague might not exactly work out for you. List down all your strengths and weaknesses and have someone you know and trust affirm it for you. By knowing your strengths, you would be able to use them to do the task and with your weaknesses, you can use this knowledge in improving them.
These are just some of the things that you can do to help improve your self-confidence. There are still many ways that you can do to improve it, but always remember to have a positive outlook on life and it will guide you to become a better you.
